Experience Community Volunteering
FROM IDEA TO ACTION
It all started in 2021, during a trek to Everest Base Camp when the three, along with Sarki Sherpa, a Tour Leader and Founder of Basecamp Journey, Nepal, came up with the initiative to help the students of Patle.
“On our trek, we learned that often children in Sarki’s home village of Patle, Okhaldhunga, cannot get to school as they have no warm outerwear,” said Kathleen McCabe. “It was heartbreaking to understand that some of the children walk over two hours each way to class, and without warm clothing, and facing cold, wind and snow, they simply can’t attend school.”
UNIFORMS FIRST
As the summer of 2022 approached, and after discussion with Shree Patle Secondary School Principal Lakpa Sherpa, it was decided that the priority for the funds raised was school uniforms.
“With additional funding from generous donors Nabita Thapa , Kathmandu, and Yangdi Sherpa, Belgium, we were able to provide custom tracksuit-style uniforms to the children of Shree Patel Secondary School,” Sarki Sherpa explained.
The uniforms were locally-produced by Dawa Wear, Kathmandu.
Volunteer With Us
There are many communities in the Himalaya regions that are socially and economically disadvantaged. During our various trekking routes we get in touch with those communities that are in urgent need of help.
Contributions and volunteers have helped in developing school infrastructure, setup new libraries, provided winter school clothing and school bags for the students.
We have also set up dustbins in the schools and the communities to make the surrounding areas clean.
Life skill training programs and workshops have also been implemented in schools and the communities too.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Our representative will pick you up from the airport and escort you to the hotel.
You can complete checking-in hotel procedures and enjoy a night’s rest.
Day 02: Trip Orientation & Briefing
After Breakfast, there will be a briefing about your stay in Nepal, detailed explanation regarding Volunteering, Placement, Culture, People, School and Community activities.
After the briefing we will go out for lunch and then go on a full Sightseeing tour of our Cultural heritage in Kathmandu Valley. Stay Kathmandu Hotel
Day 03: Kathmandu To Patle (Drive 6-7 Hours)
Departure from Kathmandu towards Patle after Breakfast. The entire drive to Patel will be full of Scenic winding roads, green hills, rushing rivers, patches of Settlement.
Upon reaching Patle community village, volunteers will be taken to their respective host families and settle in our room.
You can walk around or take a rest after long journey.
Day 04 to Day 07: Meeting with our Host Families & Volunteering
After having morning Dal Bhat (Nepali staple food) we all gather at one of the host families home and from there volunteers visit the local school.
Then off to School welcoming us with warm hearts. Greet and meet, introducing ourselves, then walk around places to start volunteer jobs.
We will take a break in every hour, and have our Day Snack at the local food Stall (Pasal). After mixing and working with the community, we will go back to our host families.
Day 08: Free Day to Explore
Volunteers can relax or enjoy their day by themselves or explore the other parts of the community, catchup on laundry or go on a hike in the surrounding area etc.
Day 09 to Day 11: Volunteering & Activities
We will spend these last few days with our host families, doing volunteer work, while experience life in the village community,
Day 12: Last Day Volunteering
At the finish of our last day, we stack all materials and tools back in storage.
We will gather at the school to farewell the students and everyone we have had the experience to meet and stay with. Then go back to our host families to say our goodbyes.
Day 13: Patle to Kathmandu [ Drive 6-7 hours]
We head toward Kathmandu after breakfast and arrive in the late afternoon to check into the hotel. Either relax for the rest of the day or go shopping.
Later, we will gather together for our farewell dinner.

Transfers from airport to Hotel in Kathmandu, and back to airport on departure.
Katmandu
Three (3) nights accommodation in Kathmandu and breakfast is included.
Patle Community Village
Family Stay Accommodation during volunteering and includes three (3) meals each day.
Transportation
All transportation during volunteering days as per the itinerary.
Nepal Visa
These are also available when arriving in Nepal, please make sure to bring $US for the visa.
International Air Tickets
The payment for Community Volunteering does not include air flight travel.
Travel Medical Insurance
Please purchase travel insurance as it is required before your home departure.
Emergency Evacuation Cost
For any unforseen cirucumstances.

Customers can stay extra days at the same hotel

Transportation for early arrival and late departure as well as early return from volunteering placement.
